Recently I have had reports from
applicants hat they are learning that their
credentials have been submitted to companies they
are unaware of by employment agencies that they
have not heard of, never submitted their resumes
to, or talked with.
In discussion with these applicants I have
learned that without fail they have placed their
resumes on job boards. It appears
that there are so
called recruiters out there that are
harvesting resumes and shotgunning them to
potential clients. Needless to say this type
of practice not only gives a negative
impression of employment firms, but also gives the
company the impression that the applicant is
desperate when they receive the resume from
multiple sources.
Reputable executive recruitment professionals
will:
1) have talked with
the applicant regarding the available job.
2) have
provided the applicant with the geographic
location of the of the company and obtained their
approval that it is a suitable location for
them and their family
3) if the position
is not a confidential search, provide the name and
website of the company for the applicant to
research and review
4) MOST
IMPORTANTLY OBTAIN THE APPLICANT'S
APPROVAL
TO SUBMIT THEM TO THE COMPANY.
Companies should be assured by the
professional recruiter that
1) all
applicants have been pre-screened for the
available job
2) applicants
are interested in their company and the
position
3) applicants
are willing to live in the required
geographic location
These items are only the bare basics of what
an applicant and a company should expect and
receive from the recruitment professional.
Job Boards can be a powerful source of
employment opportunities and an avenue to locating
a great job, but before submitting your
information to a job board, be aware of the
pitfalls.
