Hello All Summer has arrived!
With all the excitement of vacations, picnics,
reunions and just enjoying summer many are also
dealing with downsizing, weak portfolios and
wondering when are the stimulus dollars going to
kick in. Good news according
to economic researchers, clients and financial
wizards that I have been talking with. They
are saying that the pent up needs and wants are
about to break loose. The prediction
is that stimulus money will begin to flow
out of the State bottlenecks and banks will begin
to make loans again. There will be the surge
after the recession and are predicting (by those I
talk with) it will begin 4th quarter
2009. What does this mean for
job seekers and employees? Read what we/they
believe this surge will mean for job seekers and
employers
alike.

JOB
SEEKERS- WHAT DOES THE UPCOMING SURGE
MEAN?
Job seekers that have made good use
of the downsizing during the recession will begin
to have recruiters and companies call with
potential job opportunities.
What does "good use"
mean?
1) Maintained contact with
their favorite and stable recruiter.
2) Provided updates on job
status, desires, needs, locations, and upgraded
skills to your favorite recruiter.
3) Maintained contact with the
hiring managers and/or HR at the firms you would
like to work for - haven't been a pest, but have
kept in e-mail or voice mail contact every 2-3
months.
4) Upgraded your skills -
classes, seminars, obtained licensing, become
certified in new technology - all within your
field
5) Maintained a positive
attitude

EMPLOYERS - WHAT DOES
THE UPCOMING SURGE MEAN?
Employers
are going to begin to see once again a shortage of
qualified A+ candidates in the technical
fields. Employers are going to need to
develop a strong "sales plan" - why work for our
firm - what makes us
different.
What is a good plan?
1) Developing a strong human
assets strategic plan and contingency
plan
2) Developing an onboarding
strategy for new employees
3) Developing a retention plan
for current employees
4) Researching and training the
latest technology skills within you current work
force
5) Maintaining ongoing
communications with your favorite
recruiter

PERSONAL OPINION OF THE UPCOMING
SURGE
As a
seasoned recruited I have seen surges before, but
this time it is sure to be stronger. This
recession was deeper then we have seen in the
past. The pent up needs and wants are
greater then we have seen in the past. I am
anticipating we will experience a great need for
qualified applicants. That there will be
more jobs than people available. That
companies with good reasons to why someone should
work for them, companies, that offer solid on
boarding and help their employees grow will the on
the top of the list for the places applicants want
to work. October is only 3 months
away. It is time for all of us to take
stock, make plans and get ready for the
surge

ONBOARDING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You may have heard the term
onboarding. It is not a nautical term,
but a process to assimilate
new hires into the company
culture. This process can
take as long a 6 months to 1
year. A strong onboarding
program will provide support,
mentoring and be designed for each individual. It will not
be a "one size fits all" program.
Companies that have strong
onboarding programs find that they increase their retention rate
greatly.

GREEN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Everywhere we turn someone is
talking about being
green. It isn't just
Kermit the Frog any longer. Are you talking
green living? The NY Times has
a blog called Green, Inc.
Http://greenincblogs.nytimes.com Check
it out.
The last post I read talked about
more efficient automotive
A/C to reduce fuel consumption
carbon emissions,
etc.
